Monika leads all organizational development and strategy, the day-to-day of staff & volunteer management, program effectiveness, donor relations, Board communication, and media presence, plus the broader responsibilities of financial sustainability, international relationships, and future programming vision. She is also the president of the Board of Directors for the newly registered Poder y Luz Maya ONG in Guatemala. Monika has an MA in Social Change & Development and is a specialist in sustainable rural development. She is published in Development in Practice and FAO Sustainability Pathways: Best Practices.
John is the creative genius behind ATC. It was his vision back in 2008 that led to the development of the Design Library, offered open-source to support humanitarian projects worldwide, and dozens of successful Appropriate Technology projects in the US and Guatemala. John's background is in Architecture, and Industrial Design & Mathematics. He is recognized as a Michigan Sustainability Champion, IBM Smarter Planet Challenge, Inventor of Solar Vaccine Refrigerator, and Boston Innovation Prize winner.
Marilena runs the Mayan Power and Light program from the Guatemala field office in Quetzaltenango. She set the program curriculum, manages alliances with municipal and community organizations and leads 4 divisions of staff members running the women's entrepreneurship program, solar training and demonstration projects. Marilena's background is in Social Work, specializing in women’s empowerment. She has 12+ years leading educational programs to overcome gender barriers to economic participation for rural women in Guatemala.
Theresa supports grant writing, mentors student engineers to create Appropriate Technologies, develops data tracking tools to measure program impacts and results, leads the Detroit Solar hands-on STEM training program, and supports general administration. Theresa has a BSE in Mechanical Engineering with 19 years of design and prototype development experience at Toyota North America.
Luis manages MPL logistics and finances, partnerships and distribution of green technologies across Guatemala. Luis joins us after over 15 years in non profit administration with Habitat for Humanity and Primeros Pasos.
